As per the latest news, Earthquake hit Chandigarh on 3.58 local time and was measured to be 6.8 on Richter scale. Notably, the Gujarat Lions side which was scheduled to play the hosts, Kings XI Punjab was also present in the city. As soon as the people of Chandigarh felt the tremors of the earthquake there was harakiri like atmosphere all around. But the good news is that the Gujarat Lions players and staff were evacuted safely from the hotel and no news of any kind of damage to the players have been reported till now. Gujarat Lions will play KXIP at Mohali on Monday.
The aftershocks were felt throughout the northern India. As per the reports the epicentre of the earthquake is in the Hindukush mountain range which lies on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
One of the players, Andrew Tye was quoted by cricket.com.au outside the hotel premises saying that “I was sitting on the end of my bed fixing a cricket bat and it felt like the bed started to move.I was like ‘what happened there’ and I looked around the room and certain things were shaking, so I thought ‘it must be an earthquake’.
He further added that, “There was a bit of commotion in the hallway and we got rushed outside.I immediately thought back to Nepal last year around a similar sort of time. I know how devastating that was. I was more worried for other people rather than myself.”
Thankfully no loss of life or damage to any property has been reported. Till now, no news about changes in the schedule of the match have surfaced.
