India women’s T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur is excited to play in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge scheduled during men’s IPL playoff in UAE. On Sunday, BCCI had confirmed the commencement — of the four-match league in which three teams would participate.

In the last edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge, Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas clinched the trophy after defeating Mithali Raj-led Velocity by four wickets.

Earlier this year, Harmanpreet became the first Indian captain, to lead the team to ICC T20 World Cup grand-finale. However, during the T20 World Cup 2020, dip in her form had affected the result of the team. India lost the marquee clash against Australia as they went on to win the title for the record fifth time.

After an extended break because of coronavirus hiatus, the 31-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur will be first time picking the bat in the UAE. Also, it would be her first experience in Dubai so she is excited to know the pitches there. She hopes to entertain everyone with his game.

“Yes definitely (I’m excited for the Women’s Challenge), because this is our first tour to Dubai and we haven’t played there before,” Harmanpreet said during a webinar on Wednesday.

“I had questions like how the wickets would be. We need to play to our strengths because if you don’t play to your strengths, then your natural game doesn’t come out,” added Kaur.

“I hope that we grab the opportunity that we get and we are equally excited for the women’s IPL (Challenge) like the men’s IPL. I hope we play good cricket in the four games that we will get and entertain everybody,” added the dashing batter.

Harmanpreet Kaur had also feared getting injured after not playing in the five-month break. However, she has maintained her fitness while following fitness exercises in her home during the lockdown. So, the attacking batter is ready to take any challenge.

“Initially, I might have fear of injury but we have the advantage of working on our strength while at home. Those things are going to help us on the field. But physically we have tried to keep ourselves fit during this lockdown,” she signed off.

The Punjabi cricketer has represented India in 99 ODIs and 114 ODIs, scoring 2372 and 2186 respectively. She has also played two Test matches.
