Of late, Vijay Shankar had a glorious stint with the Indian National Cricket Team. He impressed the team management with his brilliance with the bat in New Zealand and then, against Australia. He walked in tough phases of the game and settled the ship for Virat Kohli-led side. Meanwhile, he grabs a place for ICC World Cup 2019.
The batting all-rounder has always been a scarcity for India in the International cricket. After Kapil Dev, we hardly got a player with a stature like him. After quite a time, India got a leap of faith with Hardik Pandya delivering the goods in both sections of the game. Now, they got one more player in the form of Vijay Shankar, who is a batting dominant all-rounder.
On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced their squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. As expected, there are quite a few surprising names on the chart. Vijay Shankar is one such interesting selection, who got the nod ahead of a regular player Ambat Rayudu.
Speaking of the inclusion, MSK Prasad recently quoted that Vijay Shankar is a two-dimensional player, who not only bats but also gives an extra option for Virat Kohli while leading the side. His bowling is the only aspect, which brought him into the ship while Rayudu is unfortunate to miss out.
Vijay Shankar brings a lot to the team – Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, the skipper Virat Kohli also makes his voice on the selection. He quoted that the youngster from Tamil Nadu brings a lot to the table, which is certainly a great advantage for any team. Virat Kohli is quite happy to have the services of Shankar in the mega event.
Speaking to Boria Majumdar of India Today, Virat Kohli quoted saying ”Vijay Shankar brings in a lot to the team and hence, I am delighted to have him.”
Well, it would be interesting to see how the youngster approaches the upcoming showpiece event. Most probably, he will be getting the chance right in the first game to play at number 4 for the team. Currently, he is handing his services for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League 2019.
