The no.1 Test and ODI batsman Virat Kohli has continued his brilliant batting form in the ongoing Cricket World Cup. His consistent batting performances in the big stage have proved once again why he is one of the greatest batsmen in the world cricket history. During the crucial CWC match against England on Sunday (30th June) at Birmingham, Indian captain Virat Kohli creates a new record by scoring his fifth consecutive 50+ score in this tournament.

In this crucial match, England managed the first innings total of 337/7 (50 overs) after winning the toss. Chasing down that target, India lost the opener KL Rahul (0) in the third over of the innings and Kohli joined early in the crease. Once again, the Indian captain played a brilliant innings and provided a solid 138-run partnership for the second-wicket along with another opener Rohit Sharma. After scoring 66 runs off 76 balls (seven boundaries), Kohli finally lost his wicket in this important chasing.

Earlier, the Indian captain also scored four consecutive half-centuries in the ongoing tournament

Though Kohli hasn’t scored a century yet in the ongoing CWC, he has scored five half-centuries in this tournament and that too in consecutive way. Kohli has started these consecutive 50+ scores since the Australia match at The Oval. The right-handed batsman scored a crucial 82-run in that match.

Later, the Indian captain scored 77, 62 and 72 runs against Pakistan, Afghanistan and Windies respectively. After that Windies innings, Kohli became the first Indian captain to score four consecutive 50+ scores in CWC history.

He has stretched these consecutive 50+ scores in the latest CWC match against England. Scoring another half-century in this match, Kohli now becomes the first captain to score five successive 50+ scores in the Cricket World Cup history.

However, it is not the first time when Virat Kohli scored five consecutive 50+ scores in ODI career. Earlier, he achieved this similar feat for twice, in 2012 and 2013. But this time, Kohli has achieved this feat in the Cricket World Cup and that too as a captain.

After this latest batting performance, Kohli has scored 382 runs in six innings (average 63.66) in the ongoing 2019 CWC.
