ICC World Cup 2019: I Am Not A Medium Pacer, I Am A Fast Bowler – Andre Russell
It was one of the nightmares of starts for Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2019. They were completely outsmarted by Windies team in the opening game, which not only dented a couple of points but also made a massive effect on their net run rate as well. One of the key players to see that happening was Andre Russell, who delivered with the ball.
The spell of Andre Russell took away the game from Pakistan, as he bagged the wickets of Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman in quick succession. The spell changed the complexion of the game, as Pakistan never looked like coming into the game.
Following the spell, Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas have wreaked havoc with their fine spells. They made the mockery of Pakistan attack, which saw them being bundled out for just 105 runs on the board.
They Underestimate me – Andre Russell
In reply to the chase, Chris Gayle started things off in a style while the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer shouldered Windies to the victory ropes.
Speaking of his own bowling, Andre Russell quoted that people remember him just as a big hitter but not as a fast bowler, who takes wickets. Andre Russell asserted that he is not a medium pacer but a fast bowler, who consistently bowls over 140 KMPH speed.
“A lot of people have been saying I’m in the team as a big-hitting batter but they don’t remember I’m a fast bowler,” said Russell after the match. I think they underestimate me. I’ve been jealous in the past couple of years because people have me down as a medium-pacer. When I see ‘Andre Russell’ come up on the big screen and I see ‘medium-pacer’, I’m like, who are they talking to?’.
I am Annoyed:
Andre Russell added that he was annoyed by the fact that the people give him respect only as of the big hitter of the ball. He highlights the fact that he delivers the ball over 140KMPH to take the wickets for his side.
“Actually, I’m annoyed. Who’s responsible for that stuff should change medium-pacer to fast. At the end of the day I’ve showed them I can bowl 90mph. I think they should put some respect by my name. Today, when you turn up and see a (bouncy) pitch like that, it gives you a vibe to bowl fast, an energy to bowl fast,” he added.
Well, Andre Russell has completely changed the scenario of the game against Pakistan. His brilliant display of fast bowling has made things fall in place for the team, which was followed by the brilliant spell of Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas.
