ICC World Cup 2019: Kolkata Fan Passes Away After MS Dhoni’s Run Out
The Indian fans have always been passionate about the game of cricket and always cheers their heart out for the Indian National Cricket Team. But, sadly, one of those fans has passed away after the run out of India’s stalwart player MS Dhoni. Though he was rushed to the hospital, the patient couldn’t make it up.
After the top-order dismissals, the hopes of the billion people were rested on one man. Yeah, it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who bailed out India from those situations during his times. But, unfortunately, MS Dhoni couldn’t do the same when it mattered the most, as he walked away being dismissed in the fashion of run-out.
Chasing a moderate total, initially, it was Rohit Sharma, who edged Matt Henry to Tom Latham while Virat Kohli was trapped plumb in front of the wicket when Trent Boult bowled a brilliant Inswinger delivery. It was followed by Henry’s outswinger to KL Rahul and then came the stunner from James Neesham.
In the chase, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja breathed life into India’s chase after the top three – Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli – departed having scored just 1 run each.
However, the stunning partnership from Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni kept them in the chase until the end. But, the untimely dismissal of Jadeja and a brilliant run out of Dhoni has changed the complexion of the game.
With Dhoni still in middle, all hopes were not over. But the Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman saw Guptill turn from zero to hero in a split second. His direct throw – aimed at a single stump – got Dhoni just inches away from the crease. In the end, India lost the semi-finals against New Zealand by 18 runs at Manchester.
Srikanta Maity collapsed after the run out:
According to Times of India, Srikanta Maity (33) collapsed in his shop immediately after MS Dhoni got out. He was watching the match on his phone. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
“We rushed to his help on hearing a loud thud. We saw him lying unconscious on the floor. We took him to Khanakul hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” a man told the news outlet.
