ICC World Cup 2019: Put Pressure On KL Rahul To Deliver Not MS Dhoni – Sanjay Manjrekar
Finally, there comes a person, who highlighted the struggles of the other batsmen rather than pointing out Mahendra Singh Dhoni after every loss. It is the former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, who asked the Indian team management to put pressure on the opener, KL Rahul, rather than asking MS Dhoni every time.
The muted finish to India’s attempt to chase down a victory target of 338 against England at Edgbaston had fans wondering what had happened to MS Dhoni. Instead of going for the sixes, Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav blocked and ran a single here and there to leave a Sunday crowd frustrated in Birmingham.
It’s really unfair – Sanjay Manjrekar
Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar feels it is unfair to blame MS Dhoni every time whenever the Indian team loses a game. Instead, he wants the team to put pressure on players like KL Rahul, who already got enough chances to deliver for the team.
“It is really unfair that the focus is only on Dhoni because, if, at this stage of his career also, there aren’t other batsmen around who can help India win matches, then it is not healthy (sign) for Indian cricket,” Manjrekar told PTI during an interaction on the eve of Bangladesh game.
“Focus shouldn’t be so much on Dhoni and it’s more a media thing, to talk about Dhoni. If I am a well-wisher of Indian cricket, I will start putting pressure on Lokesh Rahul and others to start delivering and take the load away from people like Dhoni,” said the Mumbaikar, who has played 37 Tests for India.
MS Dhoni should play run-a-ball knock:
Alongside many other experts, the former cricketer, who turned expert Sanjay Manjrekar also criticised the veteran wicket-keeper batsman on Twitter. Now, he asked the team management to say MS Dhoni play the game as he did in the Warm-up games.
“I just loved it when Dhoni went in to bat in the warm-up matches and got 30 runs off 30 balls and the late flourish came. So I would like the team management to tell him to get a run-a-ball start and see how it goes,” he concluded.
Well, it would be interesting to see whether the Indian team management listens to Sanjay Manjrekar or not. So far, MS Dhoni has managed to do things right in the games that the Indian team won in the tournament so far. KL Rahul is certainly under pressure to deliver.
