There comes Rohit Sharma‘s knock to help India bag yet another victory. However, this time, it is special, as it comes in the ICC World Cup 2019. He was the chief destroyer with a stunning century while the leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been brilliant with the ball alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
They completely outsmarted South Africa in all sections of the game to seal the first point in the tournament. The stunning knock from Rohit Sharma and the brilliant spell from Yuzvendra Chahal sealed it for the Indian team.
Getting into the details, initially, it was the skipper of South Africa Faf du Plessis, who won the toss, opted to bat first. They were welcomed by the fire spell from Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The classy Jasprit Bumrah removed Hashim Amla with a snorter while Quinton de Kock too followed in quick succession.
However, the skipper Faf du Plessis and Rassie Van der Dussen started the repair work and did well to keep Proteas in the game. But, then came the impact of Yuzvendra Chahal, who made the skipper of South Africa and Dussen walk back in quick succession.
In the end, it was Chris Morris’ blitz, which gave South Africa something to fight on the board. All in all, it was a fine performance from Indian National Cricket Team in their first game of the tournament.
Hats off to Rohit Sharma – Virat Kohli
In reply to the chase, the Indian team lost Shikhar Dhawan early in the innings while the wicket of Virat Kohli is the second one. Meanwhile, the vice-captain Rohit Sharma stood tall in the middle to guide the ship.
”The wait was very long and then you get a game like this where it was challenging throughout. From our point of view, it was important to start on the right note. We might not have had the run rate, but if you look at how the game went and how the pitch behaved, it was challenging. Hats off to Rohit, his innings was special. And also the guys who batted around him. I would say it’s a professional win,” Virat Kohli said.
”That’s where Rohit’s innings was very very special. You need experienced guys to stand up. One of the top three getting a hundred is something we bank on. KL batted really well with him. Then MS showed great composure. Hardik finished well too. He looks in a good headspace,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah operating things at a different level:
Further, the skipper praised Bumrah for his stunning spell. He explained that the impact of catch didn’t leave the pain for at least 15 minutes, which tells the story of his bowling.
”Jasprit is operating at a different level to be honest. The way he’s bowling, the batsmen feel the pressure all the time. Not the other way round. Chahal was outstanding as well. There’s one thing to see a bowler bowl, but to catch that ball, to feel the heaviness of it. When I caught it, for 15 minutes my hands were buzzing. He’s not giving any freebies. With the new ball he was absolutely outstanding. Haven’t seen Amla get out like that in one-day cricket. Even Quinny, he rushed him for pace.”
All in all, it was a fantastic victory for the Indian team. They bagged two points in their kitty and next takes on Australian in their second assignment.
