Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s batting approach and position in the middle order will be the team management’s primary concern when India take on dangerous Bangladesh in their next league phase encounter of the World Cup. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar wishes the management to ask MS Dhoni play run-a-ball knock right from the start.
The muted finish to India’s attempt to chase down a victory target of 338 against England at Edgbaston had fans wondering what had happened to MS Dhoni. Instead of going for the sixes, Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav blocked and ran a single here and there to leave a Sunday crowd frustrated in Birmingham.
After the departure of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, India needed 71 runs from the last five overs. All eyes were on Dhoni, known to be one of the best finishers of the game and Kedar but they couldn’t pull it off for the side.
I love MS Dhoni when bats like he did in Warm-up – Sanjay Manjrekar
Alongside many other experts, the former cricketer, who turned expert Sanjay Manjrekar also criticised the veteran wicket-keeper batsman on Twitter. Now, he asked the team management to say MS Dhoni play the game as he did in the Warm-up games.
“I wish that team management tells Dhoni to maintain a run a ball start and then see how it goes. I love Dhoni best when he has gone in to bat like the warm-up matches. I like when he scores 30 runs from 30 balls. If the team is 12/2, then I can understand his approach of defence. Once he is in around 20-22 overs, then he should look to play run-a-ball,” Manjrekar told ANI.”
Well, it would be interesting to see whether the Indian team management listens to Sanjay Manjrekar or not. So far, MS Dhoni has managed to do things right in the games that the Indian team won in the tournament so far.
Interestingly, Dhoni is currently the third highest run-scorer for India at the showpiece event only behind Rohit Sharma (440) and Virat Kohli (382). India will next play Bangladesh at Edgbaston and Dhoni will be looking to bounce back to prove his critics wrong.
