ICC World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan Ruled Out Of The Tournament, Gautam Gambhir ‘Disappointed”
The injury to Shikhar Dhawan is a massive setback for the Indian National Cricket Team. He has been one of the vital players for the Indian team in ODI setup and already knocked a brilliant century for the team. But, the injury has drawn curtains on his stint in ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir wishes Shikhar Dhawan a quick recovery.
Notably, Dhawan has been India’s highest scorer in the last 5 multi-nation tournaments including 2013 Champions Trophy and World Cup 2015. The left-hander also went on to score a century with a broken thumb in India’s win against Australia.
Gambhir took to Twitter to share an emotional message for Dhawan. Gautam Gambhir mentioned that he is disappointed to see Shikhar Dhawan walking away from the squad. He asked the stylish southpaw to stay strong and recover in a quick time.
Thoughts are with you, Shikhar Dhawan – Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir, for his part, did not forget to wish Rishabh Pant on his endeavour and also urged not to put unnecessary pressure on the 21-year old. He wants the youngster to deal with things smoothly.
“Disappointed to know that Dhawan will no longer take part in World Cup, he looked so much a part. My thoughts are with u brotherman but don’t worry not the end of the world. Best wishes to Rishabh Pant. I’d urge that we don’t put any undue pressure on Rishabh,” wrote Gambhir.

In Dhawan’s absence, KL Rahul will open the innings for India as he did in the match against Pakistan in Manchester. Rahul looked comfortable against the Pakistani bowlers and stitched an all-important partnership of 137 runs with Rohit Sharma. Rahul went on to smash 57 runs before being dismissed by Wahab Riaz.
Pant, who has replaced Dhawan in the squad, reached England before India’s clash against Pakistan. The youngster has already participated in training sessions and will be raring to prove his mettle in the showpiece event.
However, it is tough to find a place for Rishabh Pant at the moment. With Vijay Shankar being handy with the ball, most probably, the team would continue with the lineup that played against Pakistan.
