Yet another low-scoring game greets the semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019. The Superb bowling effort from the England bowlers and the stunning knock from the ex-skipper Steve Smith helped the Australian team to post a moderate total on the board.
Initially, it was Aaron Finch, who won the toss, elected to bat first. They haven’t got the start, which they wanted, as Jofra Archer removes Aaron Finch off his first ball. David Warner looked in decent nick with brilliant fours upfront but failed to convert his start into a big one.
Steve Smith-Alex Carey added 103-run partnership:
The duo went for cheap scores while Peter Handscomb’s return to Australian team didn’t go as planned. Chris Woakes was the wrecker-in-chief with the new ball while Steve Smith delivered the much-needed partnership for the team alongside Alex Carey, who played with an injured-Chin.

They went on to add 103-run partnership before Alex Carey handing a catch to James Vince in the deep off Adil Rashid. He was quickly followed by Marcus Stoinis when Adil Rashid delivered the goods.
Glenn Maxwell smashed a couple of boundaries for the team and looked decent enough to bring a good partnership for the team. But, the knuckle delivery from Jofra Archer saw Maxwell walking back while Pat Cummins followed him in a quick time.
Despite wickets falling at the other end, Steve Smith batted brilliantly to tickle the scorecard with occasional boundaries. Mitchell Starc also played a decent knock, in the end, to help his side reach a competitive total.
Steve Smith scored a brilliant 85 before Jos Buttler ran him out at the non-striker end. For England, all the bowlers delivered the goods.
Here are a few tweets:
Excellent presence of mind from Alex Carey to catch his helmet and not allow it to fall on the stumps. He would have been hit-wicket if helmet had hit the stumps.
Immediately, he even waved hands towards dressing room for help. #EngvAus

England have been magnificent in the field & with the ball in hand .. The skipper also hasn’t missed a trick .. ? #CWC19

Trying not to be harsh.. but why didn’t Smith or Dhoni dive when there was a likelihood of a runout?
a dive can make you an extra foot.. #difference— Dean Jones AM (@ProfDeano) July 11, 2019
What a start for England!!!
Excellent execution of precise plans for all three batsmen. Finch, Warner and Handscomb. #CWC19 #EngvAus— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) July 11, 2019
Australia have a defendable total – just. 224 the target but on this wicket ….#ENGvAUS

Australia have been bowled out for 223 in 49 overs. After choosing to bat first, they would be disappointed. England need 224 to join NZ in the #CWC19 final on Sunday. #ENGvAUS #SemiFinal2

That's a wrap!
A brilliant bowling display from England sees Australia all out for 223! Steve Smith battled hard for the Aussies with his 85 – could that be a match-winning knock?#AUSvENG | #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/REgouHphe5

Being English, I'm actually more nervous about chasing down a low total, than if they had scored 350+ #ENGvAUS @bbctms
