Australian duo David Warner and Steven Smith are coming back after 12 month ban from international cricket. Both the cricketers were involved in Sandpaper Gate in Capetown last summer.

After proven guilty, they along with Cameron Bancroft were handed respective bans. However, ever since they reached England for World Cup, they are having a very tough time. English fans are booing them on every opportunity.

However, a special gesture was made by Indian captain Virat Kohli during the clash against Australia. Steven Smith was sent to the boundary to field by captain Aaron Finch. The Indian fans started booing him and some of them referred to him as “cheater”.

But the Indian skipper has turned towards that stand and asked the fans to clap for Steven Smith. The gesture did have its impact as Steven Smith was greeted with a round of applause from Indian fans present at The Oval on Sunday.

A cricket journalist called Sam Landsberger, who works for Herald Sun reported the incident on his official twitter handle.

“Wow. How good is this from Virat Kohli? Steve Smith is sent to field on the boundary and immediately cops the most hideous boos from the Indian fans. So Kohli turns to that stand and gestures for them to clap Smith.

The twitter fans are quick to applaud the classy gesture by Indian skipper on the day. Meanwhile, Indian batsmen dominated Australian bowlers during the first innings.

Having won the toss, India decided to bat first. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan played cautiously at the start.

However, once they saw through the initial overs, both of them accelerated the run scoring. In no time, India were able to push the run rate past 5. Rohit Sharma impressed with another 50 in an important game.

On the other hand, his batting partner Shikhar Dhawan scored another World Cup hundred. He was at the forefront of Indian onslaught on Sunday. Dhawan got ample support from Virat Kohli throughout his innings.

Once Dhawan was dismissed, Hardik Pandya played a quick fire 48 to propel India past 300 mark in no time. Cameos from MS Dhoni and KL Rahul at the end, saw India score 352/5 in their 50 overs.
