The World Cup-winning skipper, who is the current Prime Minister of the country Imran Khan has decided himself take the job of fixing the current Pakistan team. He wants to have a close look into the team and wants to bring back the glory of the country after missing out a chance to play the second stage of ICC World Cup 2019.
The Sarfaraz Ahmed–led team had an extremely inconsistent run in the competition and were fifth in the table with 11 points. They have tied with eventual runners-up New Zealand but missed out on the knockout spot due to inferior net run rate.
We will fix the system – Imran Khan
Khan quoted that he is working on a plan to develop the “best cricket team of the world” following the debacle of the country in the recently-concluded ICC World Cup in the UK.
The cricketer-turned-politician said this while addressing a gathering of Pakistani-Americans at Capital One Arena in downtown Washington DC on Sunday.
“I went to England where I learned to play cricket. When we returned from there we raised the standard of other players. After the World Cup, I have decided that I will fix the Pakistan cricket team. The team you see in the next world cup, remember my words that team will be a professional team. We will fix the system and bring one in which the best talent comes forward,” he added.
However, he did not divulge details about his plans. He is currently on a three-day visit of the US and is scheduled to meet President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday.
Currently, Pakistan team is free from International cricket, as they have no fixtures scheduled to play for the next few days. The players of the team are representing county clubs in the ongoing Natwest T20 Blast.
