Indian pacer Mohammad Shami praised his bowling partner Mohammed Siraj for exceptional bowling in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. The 29-year-old is the world’s No.1 pacer in the ODI format and has been providing India with crucial breakthroughs in the early part of the innings.
After the match, Mohammed Shami was asked at a press conference, about bowling with Mohammed Siraj and India’s bowling attack across formats.
“It has been a long time since Bumrah has not been playing. It is our hard luck that he is not there. But we have a very good overall bowling unit for both white and red balls. We support each other a great deal,” Mohammad Shami said.
Not very long ago, Mohammed Siraj was not a regular member of the team in any format. However, things have changed completely in recent months thanks to his stunning and consistent performances. Speaking on Siraj’s rise in International cricket, Mohammad Shami said Siraj has a lot of confidence in bowling and asserted the importance of bowling in pairs.
“Siraj has been playing for a while, he has the confidence. It is important to see how well the other bowler is doing when bowling in partnerships. We try to bowl as tight as possible, keeping the ball in specific patches. As a senior bowler, you have to lead the way,” Shami added.

Speaking about the match, Stifling Test-match style bowling from Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj caused damage for the Australian team. Mohammed Shami (3/17) and Mohammed Siraj (3/29) made life tough for the batters with their high-quality seam bowling.
On chasing a total of 189 runs, India made a disastrous start following a fiery spell from Mitchell Starc picking up three important wickets including Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Surya Kumar Yadav. KL Rahul and the comeback of Ravindra Jadeja stitched an unbeaten stand of 108 runs to take India to victory in the 1st ODI against Australia.
