IND vs ENG 2016: Gautam Gambhir Thanks His Fans After Being Retained In Test Team

Fans around the country were delighted with the selectors’ decision to retain Gautam Gambhir in the Test squad that will face England in the upcoming five-match Test series, starting November 9. After the selectors announced the 15-man squad, fans took to Twitter to express their delight and the Delhi batsman made sure to thank the fans for their good wishes.
The Delhi batsman became the toast of the nation after playing a starring role in two World Cup finals – World T20 in 2007 and 50-over World Cup in 2011. Not only that, he also played a pivotal role in the Test team when India achieved the No. 1 for the first time in its history. But a string of poor performances with the bat saw him getting dropped in July 2014. Gambhir was one of the best players in the country that time and it was expected that he will make a comeback in the national team. However, Shikhar Dhawan along with Murali Vijay in Tests and Rohit Sharma in ODIs, was doing well and any hope of Gambhir getting a chance in the Indian team were looking bleak. But the southpaw never lost the hope and kept on performing well in the domestic circuit.
He was finally rewarded for his perseverance when he got recalled in the team to replace injured KL Rahul in the Test series against New Zealand last month. He made the opportunity count by scoring a quickfire fifty in the final Test at Indore and further strengthened his claim by playing a knock of 147 against Odisha last week in Ranji Trophy.
The southpaw has always received warm support from the fans and he makes sure to acknowledge it every time. This time was no different either as he took to Twitter to thank his fans and also gave an indication that the option for him now is ‘onwards and upwards’.
Thank you for your wishes and messages. Keep supporting Team India. Onwards and upwards! #INDvENG
