Former Indian Cricketer Venkatesh Prasad praised Indian legendary skipper Kapil Dev for giving a defining moment in Indian Cricketing history by winning the World Cup for the country. The Indian all-rounder inspired to win the championship come up against high-quality opponents in England.

The 1983 World Cup victory redefined the game in the country, as the game reached the nook and corner country, with talent emerging every year to represent the country at the highest level. Nobody expected the Indian team to do too well in the 1983 World Cup. But under the leadership of Kapil, India managed to beat the heavyweights West Indies in the final to win the championship.

On the 40th anniversary of India’s World Cup win in 1983 World Cup, Venkatesh Prasad took to his social media account to hail the Indian legendary skipper Kapil Dev for leading the team from the front to win the World Cup for India and praised him greatest Indian Cricketer, who has set a standard for the player to follow in his generation.

“What a day it was 40 years ago. Kapil Dev led from the front in the defining moment in the history of Indian cricket. India’s greatest complete Cricketer and a role model for our entire generation. Probably needs to be celebrated more than he is,” Venkatesh Prasad tweeted.
The cricketing revolution was brought forward by the World Cup win of 1983 in India, Kapil Dev remains the youngest captain to lift the World Cup. The genius all-rounder bowled brilliantly, was an explosive batsman, and was a very agile fielder for India during his playing days.
Despite having a few big names to play for the country, India still lagged in cricket, for a major part in the 20th century, as they could not win ICC events in recent times despite having enough resources in the country.

Earlier, Venkatesh Prasad expressed his disappointment over the selection committee on their decision to drop Kerala spinner Jalaj Saxena from the Duleep Trophy squad, as he has been performing consistently well for Kerala in the Ranji Trophies.

“There are many laughable things happening in Indian cricket. The highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy not being picked even for the South Zone team is as baffling as it gets. Just renders the Ranji Trophy useless..what a shame,” Venkatesh Prasad maintained.
Indian veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik too slammed the selection committee over the non-selection of Baba Indrajith in the squad for the South Zone, despite doing well in the Irani Trophy.
