India vs Australia 2018-19: Prithvi Shaw Ruled Out Of Adelaide Test With Ankle Injury

Prithvi Shaw injured his ankle during the ongoing warm-up game between India and Cricket Australia XI.

Just few days ahead of the much-awaited first Test against Australia, India suffered a huge blow with their young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw not being doubtful for the clash. The opening batsman had to be carried off the Sydney Cricket Ground with a suspected ankle injury during the third day of the tour game against Cricket Australia XI.

Shaw, fielding on the deep mid-wicket fence, caught CA XI opener Max Bryant just inside the rope and fell over while trying to keep the ball in play as momentum carried him beyond. In doing so, he ended up twisting his ankle while landing.

Shaw immediately fell to the ground while grimacing as India physio Patrick Farhart rushed to attend to him. The youngster was then carried off the field as he was unable to put any pressure on his left leg. BCCI later confirmed that he was taken to the hospital for scans.

The scans revealed a lateral ligament injury and Shaw will be undergo an “intensive rehabilitation program” to become available at the earliest.

India will now have to completely alter their plans for the upcoming series.  Shaw looked in stunning form on day two of the warm-up game, scoring 66 off just 69 balls. He was set to open the innings for India. On the other hand, his opening partner KL Rahul has been struggling since the tour of England while Murali Vijay is short on match-practise.

India are yet to announce a replacement for Shaw. Mayank Agarwal looks like the most likely option while Shikhar Dhawan could also get a recall after impressing in the T20Is.
