Former Sri Lanka Cricket team off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has shared high praise on Indian National Cricket team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal calling him a champion bowler. Meanwhile, Chahal has finally got his opportunity in the ongoing series against Australia during the fourth ODI. However, the leg-spinner didn’t have a great outing at Mohali quite in line with the outcome of the game.
It was one bad game
For Australia, Adam Zampa has done an outstanding job picking six wickets in the first four ODIs. He has regularly broken partnership driving the game in favour of Australia. In stark contrast, Yuzvendra Chahal went for 80 runs from his ten overs in Mohali and picked just one wicket. While many have been critical of his performances after the fourth ODI, Muttiah Muralitharan has backed the leg-spinner. The legendary leg-spinner said that Chahal is a champion bowler who is only a human and not a robot.
Muralitharan noted that one could not expect Yuzvendra Chahal to pick a fifer in every match. Praising Chahal, he said that the young leg-spinner had done a tremendous job in the last two years. Muttiah Muralitharan also urged everyone to have patience as he is hopeful that the young kid will come back soon.
“You cannot expect the kid to pick five wickets every time he goes out to bowl. He is a champion bowler and has been bowling really well in the last two years. He has shown that he has the variety and the guile to dismiss opposition batsmen. It is a case of him failing in one game and trust me, he is no robot. You cannot put pressure on the boy by expecting him to deliver in every game. Have some patience,” he told IANS.
Meanwhile, the Indian bowlers echoed the same form that of Yuzvendra Chahal. They failed to defend a target of 358 runs after a late cameo from Ashton Turner helped Australia level terms in the series. The series decider will take place on March 13 (Wednesday) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. While Australia will look to continue their winning run, Virat Kohli & Co will have to bounce back in their last ODI before the ICC World Cup.
