IND vs NZ 2017: Shardul Thakur Gives Up Jersey Number 10, Opts for Number 54
Jersey number 10 reminds the Indian cricket fans only of the legendary cricketer, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
The status Sachin has achieved amongst Indian fans is something no other player will ever reach. The emotions and sentiments connected with anything that Sachin has ever reached or adorned in his career are hard to understand.
These feelings were touched when Shardul Thakur who too is from Mumbai made his international debut against Sri Lanka in September.
Shardul was widely criticised for wearing the jersey number 10 in his two international matches. Thakur had a decent outing with the ball in his first match, yet he was under the hammer in a needless controversy.
Even though he revealed the reason behind wearing the jersey number 10, he was not spared on social media, as cricket fans thought he had disrespected the legendary jersey number.
The reason behind wearing the number was numerology. According to the numerology calculation, the sum of his date of birth (16th October 1991) comes out to be 10. However, after all the controversy Shardul has now given up the jersey number 10 and has opted for jersey number 54.
After being picked in the 15-man squad for the three-match ODI series, he was seen practising in his new jersey number, as he did not play in the first ODI against New Zealand in Mumbai. The reason behind the change was not disclosed.
The second ODI will be a do-or-die for the Indian team, as the New Zealand defeated India by six wickets in the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai courtesy a brilliant partnership between Ross Taylor and Tom Latham.
Virat Kohli scored his 31st ODI century and surpassed Ricky Ponting on the all-time list of most hundreds by a batsman. However, his century went in vain, as Tom Latham scored his fourth ODI century to guide his team to a comprehensive win over the hosts in the first ODI. Taylor and Latham shared a brilliant 200-run fourth wicket partnership.
