New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first in the first T20 match of the three match T20 series.
Shreyas Iyer will make his international debut in Ashish Nehra’s farewell match in the first T20 against New Zealand at his IPL home venue Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
India trail New Zealand 5-0 in six matches in the T20 format and India will be looking forward to get their first win over the Kiwi’s in the shortest format. India and New Zealand played their first ever T20 against each other in 2007 T20 World Cup.
India won the ODI series 2-1 in a closely fought three match series. New Zealand won the first ODI but India fought back and won the next two matches to clinch the series 2-1.
Here is what the captains said:
“We would have bowled first as well, there is already a lot of dew on the field. The team that bowls better should win the game. Ashish Nehra is playing. He has been a great servant for Indian cricket. He’s one of the smartest guys I have played with. A true gentleman. Always willing to help the young guys in the team. It’s sad to see him go. Shreyas Iyer makes his debut at No. 4. “
“We are going to bowl, there is quite a bit of dew around. We are playing two frontline seamers and two spinners. It was a really good ODI series. Playing India in this part of the world is a stiff challenge. The boys are looking forward to it.”
