Rinku Singh, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter said that he had an intuition about winning the Player of the Match before his team’s contest against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday, May 2 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The southpaw, indeed, won the POTM award for his unbeaten 23-ball knock of 42, which was laced with six fours and one six, after the Men in Gold and Purple won by seven wickets with five balls left.

Rinku Singh came to bat after Trent Boult got the all-important wicket of KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, who was batting on 34. RR skipper Sanju Samson used a DRS referral to good effect and helped Trent Boult dismiss Shreyas Iyer caught behind. From there on, Rinku Singh took charge and took the attack on the opposition bowlers.

He stayed until the very end and made sure that the Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their five-match losing streak in the cash-rich T20 league. The Young Turk also talked about not losing patience and rather, waiting for the right opportunity to show his prowess with the bat.

After the match Rinku Singh, who had played a pivotal role in KKR’s win, told Nitish Rana, who too made a useful contribution, that got a feeling before the KKR vs RR contest began that would get the Player of the Match award. The left-hander also revealed that he had written his score on his palm before the start of the match.

Nitish Rana also lent him the needed support by scoring an unbeaten 37-ball 48 with three fours and one six. After Rinku Singh came to bat, Nitish Rana took the backseat and allowed his partner to do most of the scoring. Following the comprehensive win, the Knights moved to seventh in the points table.

Rinku Singh had played just 3 matches in IPL 2022 but has already scored exactly 100 runs averaging 50 with a best of unbeaten 42 against Rajasthan. Shreyas Iyer (324 runs) and Nitish Rana (248 runs) are the leading run-getters for KKR this season. KKR will play their next game against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday in Pune.
