Indian Sports Stars Came Out to Support PM Modi’s #9pm9minutes Initiative
Like the many other Indians, many Indian sports stars came out to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal by lighting up diyas, candles etc. at 9 PM for nine minutes on Sunday (5th April). At present, the world has been badly affected by novel COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak. While more than 1,200,000 coronavirus cases have been reported, over 69,000 people have lost their lives due to the deadly virus. Many countries are going through the lockdown process to break the chain of this virus.
India is also fighting against this virus. More than 4,000 people have been affected in this virus, including the reported deaths over 100. India is currently going through the 21-day lockdown process that will end on 14th April.
Despite taking many major steps, countries are still fighting to control the situation. Like the other countries, India is also facing the same issue as the coronavirus cases are jumping up with the death reports.
While the present condition is not suitable for public gathering, as the governments are following the lockdown process, many events have been postponed or cancelled. Similarly, many global and domestic sports events have also been postponed. Some of these global international sports events are Olympic 2020, UEFA Euro 2020, Copa America 2020 and many more.
Indian sports events have also been affected amid coronavirus outbreak. The country has postponed the IPL 2020 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is struggling to reschedule the IPL 2020 as the situation hasn’t been improved in the country.
Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Mary Kom were among those sports stars who supported the appeal of PM
In this crisis situation, while many Indians are at their home, PM Narendra Modi had appealed to everyone to lit up the candles, diyas after blacking out their home lights at 9 PM for nine minutes on Sunday to show up the unity as well as supporting the commitments of sanitation warriors, health care professionals and others.
#9pm9minute was trending on social media accounts. Like many Indians, many Indian sports stars also came out to support this appeal. Some of those were Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Mary Kom, Sakshi Malik, Geeta Phogat and many others.
Here are some Twitter reactions:
My family & I thank the selfless #SanitationWarriors cleaning our surroundings & hospitals, disinfecting affected areas & thus keeping the virus at bay.
