IPL 2017: Chris Gayle Thanks Fans After Becoming First Player To Score 10,000 T20 Runs
West Indies and Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Chris Gayle stamped his authority on Twenty20 after becoming the first man on the planet to cross the 10,000-run mark in the shortest format of the game. The hard-hitting batsman from Jamaica achieved the incredible feat during the Indian Premier League game against Gujarat Lions on Tuesday night (April 18).
Gayle had an indifferent start to the tournament as he failed to get going with the willow in the three matches that he had played prior to the tie in Rajkot.
The southpaw needed 63 runs before the start of the Indian Premier League but failed to do so in the three matches that he played prior to this match. His scores in the first two games were 32 and six before he faced the axe for the third match. He was included in the playing eleven during the match against Mumbai Indians on Friday (April 14) but was dismissed by Hardik Pandya on 22. His poor form once again prompted the team management to drop him for the game against Rising Pune Supergiant.
But he finally roared back to form with a whirlwind knock against Suresh Raina’s men. He proved his mettle with a 38-ball 77 run knock with the help of seven sixes and five fours and also crossed the 10,000-run mark when he strolled for a single to score the third run of his innings.
Riding on his blistering knock, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a mammoth 213 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the home team were restricted to 192 for 7 as the runners-up of last year registered only their second win in six matches.
And as soon as the match ended, Gayle took to Twitter to thank his fans for their constant love and support and also promised them further entertainment.
“Big Thank You to the fans for the love and support over the years! Many more entertainment to come! #10000CG #Champion #KingGayle,” the self-proclaimed Universal boss tweeted.
