Continuing the trend from last year, the has seen a number of stars pulling out of early stages of the season.
The likes of Mitchell Starc, Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins and Kedar Jadhav have already got ruled out of the eleventh season of IPL.
However, one man’s loss is another man’s gain. India’s marquee cricketing event had witnessed an influx of replacing players who were left with no takers during the auctions.
Kolkata Knight Riders‘ coach Jacques Kallis seemed extremely thrilled with Starc’s replacement in Tom Curran while suggesting the Englishman is a perfect replacement for Starc.
“It was a blow to lose Mitchell Starc at short notice. But we are not alone. Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada were also ‘casualties’ of a hard-fought Test series between South Africa and Australia,” Jacques Kallis mentions in his article for TOI.
Curran already made his mark in the competition by picking up a couple of wickets in a losing cause against Chennai Super Kings. The Englishman replaced Mitchell Johnson who was ineffective in the game against RCB.
Excited to have Curran on board: Kallis
“But Tom Curran is an excellent replacement. I’m excited to have him on board. Obviously, he has particular skills for bowling at the end of the innings. But he can bowl anywhere. I would be surprised if his batting doesn’t make a few important contributions along the way,” Kallis wrote while praising Curran.
“The Knight Riders franchise is known for its stability. Its success has been underpinned by a core group of senior and familiar faces. Like all successful teams, KKR has been able to change and grow into the future,” continued the South African great.
Kallis was in all praises for DK who now has a dual role in the team, as a captain and a batsman.
“Lots of time was spent in the week or ten days before the first game helping the new players to settle in and find their feet within the KKR family. Dinesh Karthik has played a double role – both as captain and a new player himself – and, as expected, has been excellent,” concluded Jacques Kallis.
