IPL 2018: Murali Kartik Backs Vinay Kumar after a Last-Over Thriller at Chepauk

Former India International Murali Kartik has backed Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Vinay Kumar after he failed to defend 17 runs off the last over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chennai.

The fast bowler from Tamil Nadu had a very bad outing in the last game. He gave away 35 runs in 1.5 overs as Kolkata lost the nail-biter by five wickets on Tuesday night.

Moreover, he failed to defend 17 runs in the last over as the Knight Riders suffered their first defeat. He bowled a no-ball and conceded a six – to start off the last over with Dwayne Bravo hitting it over fine-leg.

Bravo, then struck the free hit for two runs and Kumar followed it up with three tight deliveries including a wide. However, Jadeja, who was looking out of touch struck a towering six off the second last ball – to finish things off for the Super Kings in style.

Previously, KKR banked on Andre Russell’s mouth-watering knock to post such a total.

The Windies all-rounder struck an unbeaten 88 off just 36 balls to register the 200-plus mark in this edition. Moreover, he went all guns blazing and registered 11 sixes and one four.

At the halfway mark, it looked like a daunting task for the host with a required run-rate of over 10 runs. But some outstanding hitting from Sam Billings ensured that they continue the winning run.

Billings hammered a 23-ball 56 including five sixes and two fours to take his team closer to the fini.

Meanwhile, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayadu provided a brilliant start and kept CSK in the hunt. Watson struck a 19-ball 42 while Rayadu scored 39 runs.

Post the match, Kumar found a support in the form of Murali Kartik. He cited examples of Dale Steyn to back his former teammate.

Kartik took to Twitter to support Kumar while answering a tweet.

Really sorry he is a very good and experienced bowler with skill.. Dale Steyn has gone for 25 runs twice and lost the game so is he the word u used..it happens, my friend.. Don’t pls belittle ppl,” Kartik tweeted.

Meanwhile, Kumar, who is a fighter is likely to fight his way back in this league. KKR will want him to look forward and win more matches for the side.
