IPL 2019: 6th Match, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab – Match Report Yet another victory for Dinesh Karthik-led side at Eden Gardens. They thrashed Kings XI Punjab to secure their second win on a trot in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2019 edition.
Firstly, it was the show from Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell, which helped the team to post a massive total on the board. Later, it was a collective bowling effort, which did the trick.
Turning Point of the match:
The error committed by Ravichandran Ashwin – The Skipper was the major turning point of the match. Shami bowled a stunning yorker to dismiss Andre Russell for 3 runs but the schoolboy error by Ashwin saw Andre Russell getting a reprieve. He then smashed 47 runs off 17 balls.
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab – 2nd Innings
In reply to KKR’s 218 runs on the board. Kings XI Punjab got the false start with KL Rahul registering yet another single digit score. Chris Gayle, who smashed a couple of boundaries and sixes failed to carry-on with the flow.
Sarfraz Khan too failed to make things fall in place, as he was outdone by Andre Russell’s slower delivery. However, then came the brilliant partnership from Mayank Agarwal and David Miller, who kept fans on the edge of their seats with their stunning strokes.
The duo took on Kolkata’s spinners to the cleaners with their clean hitting. However, the experienced Piyush Chawla did the trick for Kolkata Knight Riders. He gave the much-needed breakthrough by sending Mayank back to the hut.
Once Mayank Agarwal was a goner, it never looked right for Punjab despite Miller and Mandeep at the crease. The required run-rate went too high, which saw them losing the game by 28 runs.
Scorecard:
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab – 1st Innings
Initially, it was Ravichandran Ashwin, who won the toss, asked the hosts to bat first. Chris Lynn once again failed to make an impact on the game while Sunil Narine played a breezy knock of 24 runs in 9 balls that included 3 sixes and one boundary.
Despite the opening duo walking back for cheap scores on the board, Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rahan continued their glorious form to make things fall in place. Nitish Rana, in particular, was at his brutal best, which quickly turned things in favour of Dinesh Karthik-led side.
Kings XI Punjab, who brought Varun Chakaravarthy back into the game, bowled a sensational over by sending Nitish Rana, who scored 63 runs off 34 balls, back to the hut. The over also saw the drop down in the run-rate, as he conceded only one run in his over.
As the stage was well-set. Dinesh Karthik sent Andre Russell to the middle, asking to give a perfect flourish to the innings. In between, Robin Uthappa also scored his first fifty of the season.
Unfortunately, there were no heroics for Andre Russell, who was cleaned up by Mohammed Shami in the death overs. But, then came the moment, where umpires checked for the no-ball, as only three fielders are placed inside the ring.
That no-ball proved to be costly, as Andre Russell smashed 48 runs off 17 balls thus helped Kolkata Knight Riders to post a massive tally of 218 runs on the board.
