IPL 2019: “It is a very Good Wake Up Call” – Suresh Raina After Sunrisers Hyderabad Debacle

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got an early warning when Sunrisers Hyderabad debunked them by seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, Chennai missed the services of their regular skipper badly who took a break due to a slight niggle. Slotted in place of Dhoni, Suresh Raina rued poor batting as the main reason behind their loss.
Good wake up call: Raina
Meanwhile, Chennai never really got back in track after losing Shane Watson after a good opening start. Watson combined well with Faf du Plessis to add 79 runs for the first wicket. They played their shots taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowlers. But once Shahbaz Nadeem got Watson out, the pack followed. They lost their next four wickets within 22 runs with Rashid Khan picking two wickets for only 17 runs. Suresh Raina said it is a good waking call for them struggling to put runs on the board against good bowling. He also added that they were 30 runs short which cost them the match.
“I think it is a very good wake up call. I think we didn’t put a decent score on the board and kept losing wickets. Faf and Watson gave us a good start, but we could not capitalize. We lost too many wickets in between, and that’s why it cost us the game. We should have looked for partnerships and should have rotated our strike better. Hence, we were 30 runs short,” Suresh Raina said at the end of the game.
Dhoni feeling better
Meanwhile, this is the fourth time in the history of IPL that MS Dhoni has missed a game. He suffered a slight niggle against Kolkata Knight Riders and didn’t want to take a risk. Suresh Raina said he is feeling better now.
“He (MS Dhoni) is feeling better. His back was stiff. Probably he will play in the next game against RCB,” he added.
Despite a good start by Jonny Bairstow and David Warner, Chennai Super Kings picked three wickets including two by Imran Tahir. Suresh Raina hailed the veteran South African pacer saying that he has been providing breakthrough consistently for Chennai Super Kings.
“He (Imran Tahir) has been giving us breakthroughs. You just throw the ball to him, and he delivers. He has been bowling really well. As long as senior players are there, you just need to do well as a unit,” he concluded.
