Veteran Bengal batsman and a former Knight Rider, Manoj Tiwary has come hard at KKR’s team management and indirectly taken a jibe at KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik. Manoj Tiwary questioned whether Shubhman Gill is playing in the ongoing match against the Chennai Super Kings. He further stated that we sometimes have the misconception that cricket is a team game. However, Manoj Tiwary said that Dinesh Karthik coming ahead of Shubhman Gill despite the latter’s sensational innings the other day proves that sometimes individuals are bigger than the game.
He took a further jibe by stating that now he understands that tomorrow will be the World Cup selection and as a matter of fact Karthik will definitely hope to make it to the India squad for the quadrennial event. However, after his current form in the IPL, it will be interesting to see whether Karthik gets the nod for the World Cup.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Manoj Tiwary wrote, “Is #ShubmanGill playing dis match ?? Oh, now I understand tomorrow is d World Cup selection Who says it’s a team game ?? Sometimes it’s quite obvious to d eyes.”
Shubhman Gill is one of the finest young talents available in the country at the moment. The teenager has been asked to bat very lower down in the batting order which has never allowed him to play his natural game. However, when he got the opportunity at the top of the order against Delhi Capitals, Gill made full use of his opportunity and smashed 65 of 39 deliveries.
He looked in complete control of proceedings and struck the fours and sixes whenever the scoring rate came down. He was eventually dismissed while attempting a flick of Keemo Paul. Given his fantastic inning the other day, Manoj Tiwary feels that Gill should have been given an opportunity at the top of the order.
The youngster was part of the India U-19 World Cup squad which won the tournament last year. He was the top scorer for India in the tournament and scored a memorable century in a semi-final match against Pakistan. He was bought by KKR in the previous auctions and has played for them since then. Shubhman Gill’s half-century against DC was his 2nd in his IPL career.
