IPL 2019: Match 15, MI vs CSK – Every Game We Play In IPL is Important – Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians (MI) Rohit Sharma congratulated the whole team for putting up a brilliant show as they beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 37 runs at the Wankhede Stadium.

Defending a target off 170 runs against an able batting line-up, Mumbai Indians bowlers put up a good effort to seal a victory. Debutant Jason Behrendorff provided the perfect start dismissing Ambati Rayudu in the first over. Lasith Maling who shared the new balls sent Shane Watson packing in the next over to have Chennai Super Kings for six for two. The Australian quick continued the good work as Kieron Pollard gave him the second with a perfect catch at the boundary to dismiss Suresh Raina.

Mumbai register second win

Although Kedar Jadhav scored runs at a good pace, MS Dhoni struggled to get going. Mumbai Indians’ bowlers did an outstanding targetting the bodies of the batsmen to contain the Chennai Super Kings batters. Hardik Pandya, who shone with the bat, now contributed with the ball as his two wickets in quick succession laid the future of the game. Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah then finished off the task to complete their second win.

Meanwhile, an outstanding partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya backed some mighty hitting from Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard helped Mumbai Indians post 170 runs on the board. Previously, Deepak Chahar provided Chennai Super Kings with an early breakthrough dismissing Quinton de Kock. Although, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav added 37 runs but the Mumbai skipper looked completely out of touch. MS Dhoni brought his spinners who struck immediately to send the home side on the backfoot.

Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Rohit Sharma while Imran Tahir got rid of Yuvraj Singh to have Mumbai Indians at 50 for three. Since then, Suryakumar and Krunal Pandya stitched 62 runs for the fourth wicket to set the platform for hard-hitters to come and exploit. In the process, Yadav crossed his half-century. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard finished off the proceedings in style with some quality hitting.

Every match becomes important: Rohit

Speaking at the end of the game, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma pointed that every game is important from now. He also added they don’t want to keep things till the fag end of the league stages. Mumbai Indians played the brand of cricket they are generally known for and dominated Chennai Super Kings in all the department.

I think every game we play in the IPL is important. Having lost two games at the start, suddenly every match becomes important. We don’t want to keep that task of having to win many games at the end, it’s really difficult. We just wanted to play the brand of cricket Mumbai Indians are known for,” Rohit said.

170 was a fighting total

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma added that with 170 runs on the scoreboard, he felt there were enough for the bowlers to bowl at. He also said there was something on the wicket for the bowlers which worked well for the Mumbai Indians side. Moreover, they also put up a good fielding effort which put Rohit Sharma in dilemma to pick one game-changing moment.

We just kept ourselves in the game all the way through and those are good signs. I thought 170 was a fighting total here because you never know. We knew that there was something in the pitch and if we could knock wickets early, things could work. That’s exactly what happened. We didn’t start off well with the bat but we finished really well. With the ball, we were extremely clinical. To defend a 170 score at Wankhede, you need to be really good with the ball and we were with the fielding also being extremely efficient. That’s why I can’t pinpoint a single match-changing event, there were so many of them,” he added.

Behrendorff has done an outstanding job

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma praised debutant Jason Behrendorff who picked two crucial wickets at the top to set the stage. He also praised young spinner Rahul Chahar for being confident and doing the job he does the best.

Jason has been great for Australia with the new ball and we all know what he is capable of. Did the same for us and his spell early on set the tone. Rahul also seemed promising, bowled just the two overs but there was a reason for that as MS and Kedar play spin well. So, I went on with the pacers,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
