IPL 2019: Match 19, SRH vs MI – Kieron Pollard’s Miss Cost Us The Match – Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Two cricketers from Windies – Alzarri Joseph and Kieron Pollard starred for Mumbai Indians (MI) as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 40 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Following their defeat, Hyderabad skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar rued poor fielding as the reason for their defeat.
Hyderabad dropped Kieron Pollard who smacked hard to single-handedly take Mumbai to 136 runs. He hurled two fours and four sixes in his 26-ball 46 runs knock to finish the game on high. Previously, the visitors didn’t have a good start as they lost wickets consistently. They lacked any good partnership before Pollard combined well with Hardik Pandya and Rahul Chahar. Speaking after the game, Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that the drop catch changed the course of the game. He also mentioned this kind of chance becomes crucial in these games as the margin of error is very less.
“I think it started off when we dropped Pollard, he scored 25-30 runs – it is a huge margin. It could have been an easy chase if we would have applied ourselves. When you drop catches it is never easy. There is less margin for error (when you are bowling) but you need to grab your chances to restrict any team to under 120,” Bhuvneswar said.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Bhuvneshwar Kumar is leading any team in the IPL. He has stepped up the ranks in place of injured Kane Williamson. Kumar has done a fair job so; however, he agreed that it is a difficult job. At the same time, he also mentioned when you have seniors cricketers it becomes easy.
“It (captaincy) is difficult but you have experienced players around, not a tough job,” he added.
Will assess our mistakes ahead of the next game: Bhuvneshwar
Chasing a below-par target, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s middle-order was exposed against some quality bowling by debutant Alzarri Joseph. He picked six wickets to run down the hosts batting order single-handedly. Bhuvneshwar Kumar said this will be an eye-opener for them and they will look to regroup themselves before the next game.
“First three matches we got good opening partnerships but we never got a chance to test our middle order. Today when we did we did not apply ourselves. We will see what went wrong before going into the next match. It was not a normal flat wicket that we get in Hyderabad but it was not a tough chase,” he concluded.
