IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals Players Had To Wait Outside Their Home Stadium Due To Internal Tussle

Just two days ahead of their opening match of IPL 2019, some of Rajasthan Royals (RR) players had to wait outside their home stadium for around half an hour due to a tussle between the Rajasthan sports council and the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).

The IPL 2019 is ready to begin on Saturday (23rd March). Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals will play their opening match of IPL 2019 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium (Jaipur) on 25th March.

On Saturday, when some Rajasthan Royals players, including the captain Ajinkya Rahane, went to the ground for training, they found that the stadium gates had been locked.

However, the issue was resolved soon, but the home players had to wait outside the stadium for around half an hour.

According to IANS, a Rajasthan Royals’ senior official said, “Ajinkya Rahane and a few of the players wanted to go and train in the morning and they just had to wait for a bit for the gates to be opened. Took us hardly 25-30 minutes.”

Sawai Mansingh Stadium returned to the IPL last year after the RCA completed their suspension period. Before that, the BCCI banned the RCA for four years due to breaching election rules. During that suspension period, the BCCI didn’t allow the Jaipur Stadium to host IPL matches from 2014 to 2017.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane feels very excited after seeing Steven Smith in the squad. The former Rajasthan Royals’ captain Steven Smith was banned from IPL last season.

However, recently, the Aussie cricketer has returned to the Rajasthan Royals squad to play in IPL 2019. Ajinkya Rahane claimed that they were initially doubtful about his presence in this season due to his elbow injury. But Steven Smith’s arrival in India has boosted the side before the new season.

Ajinkya Rahane said, “We are all very excited to have him back. Initially we didn’t know if he will be able to make it or not (due to the elbow injury). But when we were told he is coming, that was a boost because his experience and records are unbelievable. He has the ability to win the team matches and that is important for any team.”

Rajasthan Royals won their only IPL trophy under Shane Warne‘s captaincy in the inaugural IPL season (2008). The side has faced many ups and downs in IPL history. Along with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they also faced a two-year ban due to corruption and match-fixing scandal.

In the last year, Rajasthan Royals returned to the IPL after completing their two-year suspension. They fought very hard in IPL 2018 and qualified for the playoffs after finishing in the fourth position in the points table. However, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended their IPL 2018 journey after beating them in the Eliminator.
