IPL 2019: Steven Smith Shoulders Rajasthan Royals To 139, Twitter Reacts
Apr 7, 2019 at 9:37 PM
It was a fine knock from Steven Smith at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The flamboyant batsman alongside Jost Buttler and Co helped the team to post a brilliant tally of 139 runs on such a tricky wicket. In between, the in-form Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to push themselves for a victory.
Initially, it was Dinesh Karthik, who won the toss, chose to bowl first. Ajinkya Rahane, the skipper of Rajasthan was pretty happy to bat first but failed to knock runs, as he once again registered a single-digit score for the team.
However, Steven Smith and Jos Buttler paired up to add a few crucial runs for the team. The run-scoring never looked easy on the wicket, as Kolkata bowlers bowled some tight lines and lengths. But, the classic dup Steven Smith and Jos Buttler added 71 runs together for the second wicket.
Though Jos Buttler walked back to the hut while trying to increase the run rate, it was Steven Smith, who took the anchor role in the match. In between, Rahul Tripathi followed Buttler in a quick time.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the debutant Harry Gurney was impressive with his slower deliveries. He bagged the crucial wicket of Buttler in the middle overs and then outsmarted Rahul Tripathi in the slog overs of the game.
Despite the failure of Rahul Tripathi, Steven Smith remained unbeaten with 73 runs to his name. However, the slow knock by Ben Stokes, who scored 7 runs off 14 balls saw Rajasthan being restricted to 139 runs.

56/1 in 10 overs.
No intent from Jos Buttler and Steve Smith to go for big shots even when they've lost only 1 wicket. This match is completely fixed.

Rahane and Smith in opening and no.3 is a recipe for disaster… Rahane should sacrifice his spot for Tripathi and bat at three/five until Samson comes back…#IPL2019 #RRvKKR

Ben Stokes is now 6 off 12 balls and keeps the strike. The Jaipur heat has gotten into his head it seems.
Sadly @rajasthanroyals sold their kidney to buy him.#KKRHaiTaiyaar#IPL2019 #IPLT20 #KKR

It's not easy to hit big shots on this pitch. KKR needs to start well otherwise this could be a tricky chase. Even Stokes is finding it hard to hit boundaries. Impressed by Gurney though #RRvKKR

Stokes’s IPL journey is nothing but a big flop. For RR he is been absolutely crap #RRvKKR
