Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Shreyas Iyer has lauded South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, who proved to be a match-winner in the super over. KXIP had won the toss and decided to bowl at the Dubai International Stadium where the pitch is quite hard for the batsman to play on. Delhi had set up a meager 157 on the board in the first innings through an important knock of 53 runs off 21 balls from Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
KXIP’s Mayank Agarwal went on to score 89 runs helping his side to level the score at 157 and the match went for a super over. DC went on to win the super over after KXIP could only register two runs to defend.
Shreyas Iyer hails match-winner Kagiso Rabada
Shreyas Iyer has hailed their pacer Rabada, who once again proved to be a match-winner for the DC team in their opening game of IPL 2020 against KXIP. Iyer said as the total was small he knew saving Rabada for the death overs would be helpful for the team. He also commended Marcus Stoinis’ performance with the bat.
“It was difficult to see the game turning in different directions. We are used to this. Even last season we faced these. KG is the winning performer, and the way Stoinis batted was game-changing. It was important for us to get wickets, since the total was small, and I knew if I saved KG’s over for the end it would be helpful,” he said in the post-match presentation.
DC vs KXIP: Late Super over drama
KXIP managed to get to the 157-run target of DC with a very important 89 run inning from Indian batsman Mayank Agrawal. The match went on to a super over to decide the winner. Punjab were to bat first and the ball was handed to South African pacer Kagiso Rabada by DC captain Shreyas Iyer.
KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran went to bat first in the super over who were both quickly sent back to the pavilion by Rabada and could only score two runs. Delhi comfortably got their 3 runs against KXIP’s Mohammed Shami, and started their IPL 2020 on winning ways.
