Delhi Capitals will clash against Chennai Super Kings in their ninth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Saturday (October 17) in Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
Delhi Capitals’ playing XI has been disturbed after the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant suffered an injury. In place of him, Alex Carey is donning the gloves for DC. And to maintain overseas players’ numbers in balance, Shimron Hetmyer has to sit out, and Ajinkya Rahane has got the place in the playing XI. But the franchise has got another huge blow as their captain Shreyas Iyer has also sustained a shoulder injury in the last match against RR.
So far, Delhi Capitals has not officially updated on Iyer and Pant’s recovery. The duo forms the core of the franchise’s batting order. If they didn’t recover ahead of the matchday against CSK, it would be a huge setback for the team.
Delhi Capitals predicted XI against Rajasthan Royals:
1. Prithvi Shaw:
Delhi Capitals has gone with Prithvi Shaw as the opener for this season, and he has also been successful in giving a good start. But Shaw has lost his wicket because of silly mistakes, mostly while rushing to play big shots. DC will want him to play a sensible knock against Rajasthan Royals.
2. Shikhar Dhawan:
In the last match against Rajasthan Royals, old Shikhar Dhawan was finally seen in the ground. He played a fiery knock and stitched partnership with Shreyas Iyer. The southpaw amassed 57 off 33 balls, striking six fours and two sixes. He also played the role of stand-in captain after Iyer left the ground due to injury. Dhawan might have to again captain the team against CSK if Iyer doesn’t recover before the match.
3. Ajinkya Rahane:
Ajinkya Rahane played the first match for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians. He showed his class with the bat after hitting effortless fours before losing his wicket to Krunal Pandya. The veteran will look to play a big knock against CSK to fill the void of Shimron Hetmyer.
4. Shreyas Iyer:
As the franchise has not informed about his seriousness of the injury, Shreyas Iyer is likely to feature against CSK. The team heavily depends on him for scoring runs in the middle-order. His ouster might cause a huge problem for DC.
5. Alex Carey:
As there is no update on Rishabh Pant’s recovery, Alex Carey will play the match against CSK. Delhi Capitals will want him to fill up the space of the big-hitter Rishabh Pant.
6. Marcus Stoinis:
Marcus Stoinis is a vital cog for Delhi Capitals both with bat and ball. He is the big hitter while had also got the knack of picking wickets in a crunch situation. His bowling against Kings XI Punjab is unforgettable which had led the game to super over. In the last seven matches, the Australian allrounder has scored 193 runs at the strike rate of 162.18 and picked six wickets. He is undoubtedly going to play all the matches for DC this season.
7. Axar Patel:
Axar Patel, the lanky allrounder, has given valuable contribution with the ball. He has picked seven wickets in seven matches at the staggering economy rate of 5.56. Patel had also given crucial contribution against RR in Sharjah as he scored 17 runs off 8 balls. Although it was a short innings, it was very impactful. Delhi Capitals will want him to showcase a similar performance again in Sharjah against CSK.

Tushar Deshpande played the first match for Delhi Capitals against Rajasthan Royals. He snared two wickets, including the key wicket of Ben Stokes, in his four-over spell. Although his first two overs proved costly, he bowled an economical last over to guide the team to 13 runs victory. He is surely going to be in the playing XI against CSK.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the lone spinner, in the team has been extraordinary this season. Against RR in their first meeting, he picked the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler and Mahipal Lomror while gave away 22 runs in his four-over. If he produces the same masterpiece again, Delhi Capitals are surely going to have the upper hand in the game.
