After facing a hugely disappointing defeat against Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings have edged closer to end their journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. MS Dhoni had also said that they will take on the next matches for the preparation for the next season.
Chennai Super Kings will clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday (October 25) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. They will look to put up a better performance to end their season in a respectable position.
Let’s take a look at Chennai Super Kings predicted playing XI:
Sam Curran gusty knock of 47-ball 52 was instrumental in helping Chennai Super Kings to evade to break the unwanted record of the lowest total. But he was sent down the order to bat at no.7 while Ruturaj Gaikwad was sent as the opener. He will be promoted above the order while Gaikawad will be benched.
Faf du Plessis:
Faf du Plessis has been the leading scorer for Chennai Super Kings this season, scoring 376 runs in 11 matches. But in the last match, he was out after scoring one run and after that middle-order fall like a heap of the card. He will look to get runs for CSK.
Shane Watson was rested in the last match to give opportunities to youngsters, but the experiment failed for them. He is likely to return in the playing XI against RCB to take them across the line.
When Ambati Rayudu had starred in the season opener match, CSK had felt that they are not going to miss Suresh Raina, but after that match, everything has gone wrong for them. Although he had played decent knocks, they have not been enough to guide them to victories. He will be looking to play a big knock against RCB.
MS Dhoni’s batting performance has gone from bad to worse as the tournament has moved on. With the top-order already suffering, his poor outing has also hurt the team. His contribution will be crucial to beat RCB and bring some positive results.
As MS Dhoni had promised, the youngsters were given a chance, but nothing changed for them. N Jagadeesan got the opportunity to bat, but he was out for a duck. Although the CSK will go with him in coming matches, he will have to deliver the best in the tournament.
Ravindra Jadeja has also faded away this season. He has conceded away too many runs with his spin bowling although the pitch favoured him. In 11 matches, the spinner has picked up four wickets at an economy rate of 9.34.
As far as his batting is concerned, he has scored 121 runs in 11 matches at the strike rate of 164.60.
Shardul Thakur has been the key player for Chennai Super Kings, picking nine wickets in seven matches. He has picked prized wickets in crunch situations. His power-hitting ability adds depth in the batting order although he has not got the chance to bat.
As Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out, Josh Hazlewood is being given a chance in the playing XI. He has played in two matches this season but picked up only one wicket. Chennai Super Kings will expect him to fill up the space of Bravo.
Karn Sharma, off-spinner, has also produced desired results as he picked up four wickets in four matches at the economy rate of 8.66. He was dropped to give a chance to veteran Imran Tahir. But he is likely to return back in the XI.
The speedster Deepak Chahar, who is the leading wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings, went wicketless against Mumbai Indians while also was not economical. He will bounce back stronger against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
