Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels the absence of Suresh Raina will be a big challenge for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2020. Raina, who had travelled with the squad to UAE, had later decided to skip the IPL and returned home citing ‘personal reasons’.
However, later it was found out to be a gruesome attack on his relatives which took away the life of his uncle and cousin. Also, Raina stated there is still a slight chance that he could get back with the squad to play in the IPL.
Suresh Raina’s absence has caused many problems for CSK to find the perfect replacement for him at one down. He is the highest run-getter for CSK and the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history.
Gautam Gambhir on the unavailability of Sures Raina:
The former KKR skipper and two-time IPL winner believe the absence of Suresh Raina at number three will be a challenge for CSK. He also feels Shane Watson has been long away from international cricket and how will he face the world-class bowling of Mumbai Indians in the IPL opener.
“There will be a challenge for Chennai Super Kings considering they do not have Suresh Raina batting at No. 3. Shane Watson has not played international cricket for a long time, so we would want to know who will open with him and how will these batsmen face these bowlers,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports show ”Cricket Connected”.
CSK to face MI in the IPL opener
CSK will face MI in the IPL opener on 19th September. The IPL 2020 will be played between September 19 and November 10. The matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah respectively.
CSK are without veterans Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina in this IPL, but still, have a strong team in their hands to compete for the title.
The Chennai Super Kings squad had to go through an extra week of quarantine after 13 squad members including two players tested positive for COVID-19. The two players that tested positive were Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
