Former Australian cricketer and coach Dean Jones feels the absence of Suresh Raina will be a major concern for CSK in the IPL 2020. Raina, who had travelled with the squad to UAE, had later decided to skip the IPL and returned home citing ‘personal reasons’.However, later it was found out to be a gruesome attack on his relatives which took away the life of his uncle and cousin. Also, Raina stated there is still a slight chance that he could get back with the squad to play in the IPL.
Suresh Raina’s absence has caused many problems for CSK to find the perfect replacement for him at one down. He is the highest run-getter for CSK and the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history.
Suresh Raina’s absence is a major concern for CSK: Dean Jones
Jones feels Raina has left a big void in the CSK team which will be a major concern for them. He also mentioned CSK’ lack of southpaws in the team which could be difficult for them playing against leg spinners.
“Raina’s absence is a major concern this time and he is in the top five run getters in IPL,” said Jones while speaking on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’.
“He is a left-hander and plays spin very well and the weakness for CSK could be that majority of their players are a right-handed batsman. They need some left handers or they could get stuck, particularly if they are playing to leg-spinners and the ball is going away,” he concluded.
CSK eye their 4th IPL title
CSK are without veterans Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina in this IPL, but still, have a strong team in their hands to compete for the title. The Chennai Super Kings squad had to go through an extra week of quarantine after 13 squad members including two players tested positive for COVID-19. The two players that tested positive were Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK will face MI in the IPL opener on 19th September. The IPL 2020 will be played between September 19 and November 10. The matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah respectively.
