Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 runs to register an easy win at Ranchi on Friday, as IPL returned to India after a 15 day sojourn in UAE.

For KKR, the top order once again crumbled like set of nine pins, as only Robin Uthappa put on some resistance with 47 runs which was top score from a KKR player. Pathan also scored a decent but it was too little too late.

For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja put on a stellar performance picking up 4/12 in his four allotted overs. Mohit Sharma picked up three wickets to take purple cap.

Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 148/3 against KKR in their 17 allotted overs, after rain intervened to shorten the match.

For CSK, Brendon McCullum was the top scorer with 56 runs, while Suresh Raina contributed 31 runs. Dhoni and Jadeja scored 22 and 17 runs respectively.

For KKR, Shakib Al-Hasan picked up two wickets conceding just 24 runs in his four allotted overs.

Match began one and half-hour late amidst a light drizzle, after MS Dhoni had won the toss and elected to bat. The decision was surprising considering that rain was hovering around on what otherwise is considered the pitch to be excellent for batting.

Gautam Gambhirm, who recently became father, described the feeling as: “can’t compare to anything”. Talking of cricket now, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper believed they are not playing smart cricket. An dfurther hoped that return to India will change things around.

On to the team new now where Yusuf Pathan’s re-entered in to the XI, despite being horribly out of form. The other change saw them benched Morne Morkel to bring in West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell. This meant KKR went in with a slow bowling attach, as they rested Pat CumminsUmesh Yadav, and Morne Morkel.

After the toss though, the drizzle meant players waited for game to begin the JSCA stadium as the delay of 90 minutes mean the game was reduced to 17 overs.
