IPL 7: CSK defeat RCB by 8 wickets; seals the 2nd spot this year
Chasing a mediocre target of 155 runs, Chennai Super Kings won the match in the 18th over against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with 14 deliveries to spare, at M, Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Super Saturday.
For CSK, Faf du Plessis top scored with a brilliant 54, while MS Dhoni scored 49 runs, as the dup put on a 75 run partnership for the third wicket as CSK won in 18th over.
For RCB, Ravi Rampaul and Yuvraj Singh took wicket apiece.
Having being invited to bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) managed to score just 154/6 in their 20 allotted overs.
For RCB, Viat Kohli tip scored woth 73 runs, while Yuvraj Singh scored 25 runs.
For CSK, Ashish Nehra was pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up a wicket each.
Earlier at the toss, Chennai Supoer Kings won the toss and MS Dhoni elected to chose field first, as the skipper felt it was their best chance to beat Royal Challenger Bangalore and end Chennai Super Kings’ three-match losing run. Chennai Super Kings, though, had already qualified for the playoffs, but need to win tis game to increase their chances of finishing second in the league table, with Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals also in the race hunting down Chennai Super Kings.
On to the team news now where Chennai Super Kings made couple of changes, as West Indies legspinner Samuel Badree came into the line-up for left-arm spinner Pawan Negi, and seamer Ashish Nehra replaced allrounder John Hastings. This changes in the bowling department were made keeping in mind that Chennai Super Kings failed to defend even 186 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last game.
Truth be told this is inconsequential game for Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are already knocked out this competition. So they made four changes to their line-up, one of which was dropping Chris Gayle, who is terribly out of form this season. Muttiah Muralitharan, Abu Nechim and Ashok Dinda were also left out, as Vijay Zol, Ravi Rampaul, Rilee Rossouw and Shadab Jakati were their respective replacement. Rampaul had played just one game this season which was against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi.
