IPL 7: KKR defeats CSK by 8 wickets

Chasing a modest target of 155 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 8 wickets to register a confortable win at at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday. Kolkata chased down the target in 18th over with 12 balls to spare.

For KKR, Robin Uthappa top scored with 67 runs, while Shakib Al-Hasan chipped in with 46 runs.

For CSK, Ishwar Pandey and Ravindra Jadeja each took a wicket.

Having being invited to bat first, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a decent total of 154/4 in their 20 allotted against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) overs.

For CSK, Suresh Raina top scored with 65 runs, while Brendon McCullum and Faf du Plessis contributed with 28 and 23 runs respectively.

For KKR, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, and Piyush Chawla took a wicket each, while the fourth wicket was a run-out.

Earlier at the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir elected to field in Kolkata Knight Riders’ first home match this season at Eden Gardens. Gambhir made the decision based on thier strebgth, as Knight Riders have won four games on the bounce batting last, couled with a largely unkown pitch also played a role in Gambhir’s decision. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni said he too would have chased as well, as he, like his KKR counterpart, Gambhir was unsure of the surface.

On to the team news now, Kolkata Knight Riders brought in Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins for his first IPL match in place this season in place of Morne Morkel. While, Chennai Super Kings brought in Ben Hilfenhaus and Faf du Plessis as Samuel Badree and David Hussey went out. Dhoni said the changes were effected keeping in mind the green tinge on the pitch with Gambhir also noding that he has never seen so much grass on an Eden surface in his three seasons at Kolkata.

Chennai Super Kings have qualified for the playoffs, while Kolkata Knight Riders are in fourth spot with 12 points and are desperately in need of a win.
