Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels the addition of New Zealand speedster Trent Boult to the Mumbai Indians side, gives them an extra edge over CSK in the IPL 2020. He was brought from DC at a price of INR 2.2 crores in the December 2019 IPL auction. In 33 appearances in the Indian Premier League Boult has 38 scalps to his name and an economy of 8.78.
The NZ speedster is in training in UAE with Mumbai Indians for the past two weeks. The Indian Premier League will be played in the UAE this season. The change in venue was commanded because of the increasing cases of Covid-19 in India.
Gautam Gambhir is excited about the Jasprit Bumrah-Trent Boult partnership
Gambhir has expressed he is really excited to watch how Boult and Bumrah perform with the new ball because both of them are world-class bowlers.
“I am really excited to watch how Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah will bowl with the new ball, because we all know Bumrah and Boult are world class bowlers, and in the T20 format both are wicket-taking options,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show ”Cricket Connected”.
“A left-arm seamer, who will bring the ball inside for a right hand batsman while Jasprit Bumrah believes in an unorthodox style of bowling,” he added.
Trent Boult’s inclusion gives an edge to MI over CSK: Gautam Gambhir
The former KKR skipper and two-time IPl winner believe Mumbai Indians have a more balanced side and have more depth than CSK with the addition of Trent Boult. He says he is more inclined towards MI for their IPL opener against CSK.
“I am skewed more towards Mumbai Indians for the opening match because if we notice the team balance and the depth of the squad while not forgetting the addition of Trent Boult in the squad can prove to be an excellent option,” he said.
“Every team wants a bowler who will take wickets with a new ball and use Jasprit Bumrah in an experimental way. I would want to see how these two bowlers perform with the new ball not only in the first match but throughout the tournament.”
Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in IPL’s history. The reigning champions are all set to go for a 5th victory to defend their title this term. The squad is well balanced with veterans and young guns.
