Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has opened up on the infamous altercation he had with Virat Kohli during the last season of the Indian Premier League.
Things got really ugly after the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore as Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were involved in a heated exchange. It all began with Kohli’s theatrics on the field as the RCB star did not squander a single chance to taunt LSG and their players. And he probably went overboard when he showed his shoe to Naveen-ul-Haq.
After the game, few words were exchanged between Naveen and Kohli while the players were shaking each other’s hands. It was followed by Gautam Gambhir pulling away his side’s opening batsman Kyle Mayers from a chat with Kohli. And just seconds later, Gambhir charged aggressively towards Kohli before other players intervened and brought the matter under control.

Gautam Gambhir on his altercation with Virat Kohli:
More than a month after that altercation with his former India teammate, Gautam Gambhir has said that he supported Naveen because he was right. In a conversation with News18, Gambhir said:
“In that particular incident, Naveen was right, which is why I supported him. It is not about Naveen, I will always stand for the one who is correct, and will do so till my last breath.”
Speaking further, the World Cup-winning former cricketer also praised Kohli for his contributions to Indian cricket. Gambhir also made it clear that he has no problem with the likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli as he said:
“I have a lot of respect for what he has done for India. People ask me about my relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, and I repeat it all the time that I share the same relationship with them and any argument between us remains on the field. We do not hold any grudges.”
