Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler was ruled out from the T20I World Cup 2022 with a back stress fracture. Deepak Chahar may replace Jasprit Bumrah and Avesh Khan may fill Deepak Chahar’s position in the travelling reserve for the T20I World Cup 2022.
Despite being one of the pace spearheads of Team India, Mohammed Shami had failed miserably and went onto pick just six wickets in the five games he played in the 2021 T20I World Cup. He was all set to play his first international T20I match against Australia after the 2021 T20I World Cup, but unfortunately, he contracted Covid-19 and was replaced by Umesh Yadav in both Australia and South Africa series.
However, he has furnished his negative Covid-19 report on Instagram which came as a breather for Indian fans and of course the team management.
Jasprit Bumrah Isn’t Going To Play 2022 T20I World Cup
Earlier India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was on Thursday ruled out of the 2022 T20I World Cup due to a back stress fracture, dealing a massive blow to the team’s chances at the ICC flagship event starting next month in Australia. A BCCI official said that Jasprit Bumrah will be forced out of action for six months due to a back injury.
“Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official said on conditions of anonymity.
Having come back from a two-month injury lay-off, Jasprit Bumrah played a couple of T20Is against Australia before breaking down again.
Mohammed Siraj Has Been Named As Jasprit Bumrah’s Replacement For Last 2 T20Is Against Proteas And He Or Avesh Khan Can Make It To the 2022 T20I World Cup Standbys
Coming back to who would replace Jasprit Bumrah, several people have closed in on two options: either Deepak Chahar or Mohammed Shami. But a report says there may be others in the fray.
“Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are the standbys. Shami has not been preferred in the T20 format but offers experience. Chahar has been earmarked as a like-for-like backup for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His batting prowess also works in his favour. Either of Avesh Khan or Mohammed Siraj could also make it to the standbys,” the report states.
Avesh Khan failed to impress with the bowl in the Asia Cup 2022. He played two games for India in the group stage round and was very expensive. He picked 2 scalps in as many games at an economy of 12 and an average of 36. He was later ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup 2022 due to illness.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar is coming back from a long injury layoff and played 1 Asia cup 2022 game and 1st T20I against Proteas. Deepak Chahar also featured in the ODI series against Zimbabwe.
India have already named Mohammed Siraj as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the two T20Is against South Africa to be played in Guwahati and Indore.
