Jasprit Bumrah Rested For Australia ODIs, New Zealand Tour
India will be without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming ODI series against Australia and the limited-overs series against New Zealand. The BCCI, on Tuesday, announced that the pacer has been rested for both the assignments. Right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj has been included in the ODI squad while Siddarth Kaul will join the side for the three T20Is in New Zealand.
Recently, there were reports suggesting that the team-management wanted Jasprit Bumrah to take ample rest ahead of the World Cup in England. Reports also suggested that the pacer might be playing just a handful of games for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
The right-arm pacer recently starred for India in the historic Test series win over Australia. He finished the series as the joint top wicket-taker, picking up 21 wickets at a stunning average of 17. Overall, he bowled a staggering 157.1 overs in the four-match series.
The BCCI, while announcing the news, also made it clear that Jasprit Bumrah would be back in the side for the home ODI series against Australia.
“Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” the BCCI release said.
Meanwhile, Siraj has looked in good form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He recently picked up seven wickets in his last Ranji Trophy game against Punjab. He had also impressed for India A during the tour of New Zealand. On the other hand, Kaul picked up ten wickets in his last two first-class games against Kerala and Hyderabad. He also picked up seven wickets in the three List A games against New Zealand A including a four-wicket haul in the final game of the three-match series.
