Troubled New Zealand opener Jesse Ryder has withdrawn from A team’s tour to UAE due to ‘personal reasons’.

Ryder, who was dropped from the New Zealand squad during India series later this year due to misbehaviour, made a great return to the domestic circuit and secured a place in the New Zealand A team for the UAE tour.

Bruce Edgar, NZC’s general manager, expressed that they respect Jesse Ryder’s decision but are currently considering options for replacement.

It would be fair to say that Ryder’s pullout has made his chance of returning to the squad before the World Cup 2015 dim. This tour to UAE would have opened the gates for his return to the international squad. But let’s hope that he makes a quick return from his personal problems and makes a case for himself in the domestic circuit for the Sri Lankan series in January 2015 as New Zealand is in desperate need of a swashbuckling opener to support Martin Guptill in the World Cup.
