Live: India set a daunting target of 279 against New Zealand in the fourth ODI

A late surge from India propelled their score to 5/278 after opting to bat in the fourth one-day international against New Zealand in Hamilton on Tuesday.

Skipper MS Dhoni (79 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (64 not out) added 127 runs in little under 17 overs to lift the total after the visitors suffered the early losses of Virat Kohli and  Ajinkya Rahane. The other main contributor from India team was opener Rohit Sharma, who along with Dhoni top scored for India with a 79.

The visitors, who trail 2-0 in the five-match series, chose to bowl in the first three matches, but seeing this as a must win match changed the strategy and decided to bat for the first time in the series.

AT toss, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said he believed his side had only been playing at “60 percent of potential” and needed a lift in the performances in this match.

India made two changes, with Ambati Rayudu and Stuart Binny coming in for Suresh Raina and  Shikhar Dhawan. It will be Binny’s one-day international debut. He didn’t get to bat, but one hopes he does roll his arm over.

New Zealand also made two changes, with Kyle Mills and Jimmy Neesham replacing frontline bowler Mitchell McClenaghan and allrounder Corey Anderson.
