David Warner hopeful to be fit in time for West Indies clash

Shahid Afridi and David Warner are two members of their respective teams who become the centre of attraction wherever they go. Both share quite a few similarities as they are controversial and extremely flamboyant in nature. But the biggest similarity between them is that they are genuine match-winners and can single handedly take their team to glory.

In an interaction with the media ahead of their clash against Pakistan, David Warner admitted that he loved playing against Shahid Afridi. “I love playing against Shahid,” Warner said on Tuesday. “I think he’s a character. “You just don’t know what to expect but when he’s on, he’s on,” said Warner.

Warner also reflected back on their first ever head to head dual. “And he’s very hard to stop. I think it was England in 2010, that was the first time I played against him and it was a similar kind of thing. “The wickets weren’t turning as much but he just seemed to have that X-factor about him. “He came out, wrapped the guys on the pads, and that’s something we are going to have to be mindful in this next game.”

Warner also said that despite being unpredictable, Afridi was a world class player. “He’s a world-class player and has been for many years,” Warner said. “And he’s unpredictable, that’s why they call him ‘Boom Boom’, because he comes out with fireworks. “Sometimes you can extinguish them quite quickly but I love playing against him and it’s not going to be any different in the T20 World Cup.”
