In the latest addition of unfortunate events in Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020, Galle Gladiators’ captain Shahid Afridi has missed the flight to Sri Lanka. The former Pakistan cricketer would have landed in the neighbourhood country today had he departed on time.
As there is no clarity as to when Afridi might land in Sri Lanka, but whenever he does, he will have to undergo the mandatory quarantine period. As a result, he may miss the initial matches of Gladiators.
Will be reaching soon: Shahid Afridi
“Missed my flight to Colombo today morning. Nothing to worry, I’ll be reaching soon to take part in the LPL for Galle Gladiators. Look forward to joining my teammates,” Afridi tweeted.

More and more troubles have brewed in Lanka Premier League although only five days are left in the inauguration of the tournament. A couple of players, including Sohail Tanvir, had returned positive for the coronavirus and have been isolated. On the other hand, star players Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Sarfaraz Khan and some others have withdrawn their names.
Amid all the chaos, Sri Lanka Cricket Board is adamant about organizing the league. Sony Pictures Network India and Sky Sports have clinched the broadcasting deal of LPL 2020, which will span for 21 days during which 23 matches, including eight doubleheaders, will be played.
Total five franchisee teams, named after Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna will compete in the inauguration edition of the league.
Colombo Kings and Kandy Tusker will play the season opener on November 26 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. The grand finale will be played on December 16.
