Steve Smith is happy with the way his bowlers bounced back in the first match at Eden Park. New Zealand notched up their second biggest victory against visiting Australia as the hosts won the match by 159 runs.
New Zealand batting first scored 307. But the early onslaught of Martin Guptill, lead thoughts of even 400 runs.
Guptill played 76 ball 90 runs innings before he was run out by Glenn Maxwell. New Zealand got a good start from opening duo Guptill and Branden McCullum as they scored 79 from the first wicket partnership. McCullum who is playing his last series scored a 29 ball 44 run innings.
But the onslaught of Guptill caught the attention of people the across the cricket sphere. Guptill launched some massive shots on a ground where the most exciting match of World Cup 2015 happened between the two Trans-Tasman rival.
Guptill throughout a simmering innings hit eight boundaries and five sixes. His playing style triggered huge roar in the stands.
Guptill smashed a monster six over the straight boundary on Kane Richardson’s third ball of the fourth over that fell on the rooftop of the stadium.
Guptill’s innings helped the Black Caps to pile up 307 runs which was too high for Australia.
