The fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 can be decided in July during the next ICC board meeting. However, the date of the next ICC board meeting is yet to be announced.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 will be the seventh edition of this tournament which Australia will host between 18th October and 15th November 2020. A total of 16 teams, including the hosts, will participate in this tournament.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has opened up a doubtful future of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. There are two major issues to follow the actual schedule of this upcoming tournament, and these are the issues in logistical management and high chances to run the entire global tournament in the empty stadium.
Despite some boards, including the Cricket Australia (CA), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) etc., have already raised their doubts to organise the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup on time, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has still shown their faith on this original schedule.
Though there is no official date for the next ICC board meeting yet, this meeting can be organised in the next week or later.
The ICC sources recently told ANI, “As of now no date is decided, but it will be there over the next one week or so but date not confirmed.”
There are chances that the T20 World Cup will be discussed in the next ICC board meeting
Some of the major points, which can be discussed during the next ICC board meeting, are deciding the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, the ICC Chairman election etc.
Talking about that, a source added, “As of now no details have been issued but there are chances that T20 WC will be discussed.”
Like some cricket boards, many former cricketers have also advised postponing the forthcoming men’s T20 World Cup. If it gets postponed, the tournament can be shifted in 2021 or 2022. Meanwhile, India has also the schedule to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in October-November 2021.
